Frequently asked questions
Playing
How do I progress in the game?
On the map, each level hides a puzzle. Solve it to move on: you earn up to three stars and some coins. Clear the levels of a world to open the next era.
How do lives work?
You have up to 3 lives. You lose one if you fail a puzzle (for example after too many mistakes) or quit it halfway. Each life refills in 30 minutes, even when the game is closed. Out of lives? Wait for the refill or use your coins.
If a level really gets the better of you, the game offers a free helping hand: a life, some hints or an easier version of the puzzle.
What are hints for?
A hint reveals a cell, a letter or a move, depending on the puzzle, never the whole solution. Tap the light bulb during a game to use one. You get hints with the coins you earn by playing, your daily streak and helping hands.
What are the daily puzzle and the daily streak?
The daily puzzle offers a new challenge every day. Play several days in a row and your streak grows, unlocking rewards at 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.
Is the game really free?
Yes. NeuroQuest is completely free, with no ads and no in-app purchases. Coins are earned by playing only: nothing is for sale.
Where is the game available?
At launch, NeuroQuest is available on the App Store and Google Play in France, Belgium, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Monaco and Canada. The online demo can be played from anywhere.
Saves and data
Where is my progress saved?
Automatically, on your device. There is no account and no online save: if you uninstall the game, your progress is erased. In the online demo, it is saved in your browser.
Can I move my progress to another device?
Not at the moment: without an account, progress stays tied to the device you play on.
How do I start over?
Go to Settings → Data → Erase all my data. The game asks you to confirm twice (by typing ERASE), because this action is final.
How do I get a copy of my data?
Settings → Data → Export my data (JSON) copies your save to the clipboard. Paste it wherever you like: an email, a note…
What data is collected?
None, unless you join the optional global leaderboard: only your nickname, your hero, your points and a random ID are then sent to our server. Otherwise, the app makes no network requests and contains no ads or analytics tool: nothing leaves your device. All the details are in our privacy policy.
Global leaderboard
How do I join the leaderboard?
From the menu, tap the podium (at the top, next to the settings), then Join the leaderboard: pick a nickname (3 to 16 characters, not your real name), read what is shared and tap I agree. Nothing is sent until you agree. The leaderboard is the same on iPhone and Android. Your hero is shown next to your nickname: change heroes and the leaderboard follows the next time you are online.
How do I earn points?
100 points per level completed for the first time, 50 per star (only your best score counts), 200 per boss defeated, 500 per world completed with every star, 75 per daily puzzle won, and a small capped bonus in the arcade. Replaying a level only pays if you beat your star record. Your past progress counts as soon as you join.
How do "Today", "Week" and "Month" work?
Four leaderboards: All time (all your points), and three that start again from zero so everyone gets a chance, even when starting late. Today counts the points earned since midnight UTC, Week since Monday 00:00 UTC, and Month since the 1st of the month, 00:00 UTC. The screen shows the time left before the reset. Offline, your points are sent once you are back online: those from a day that has already ended count for the week, the month and All time.
How do I report a nickname or stop seeing a player?
In the leaderboard, tap the player’s row: Report this name (optional reason) or Hide this player (they disappear from your leaderboard, on your device only; you can show them again in Settings → Data). A nickname reported by several players is hidden until it is reviewed. You can also write to yeun.lefloch@gmail.com with the nickname: we handle reports as quickly as possible.
How do I leave the leaderboard and erase my data?
Settings → Data → Leave the leaderboard and erase my data. Your nickname, hero, points and leaderboard ID are erased from our server (as soon as you are online). Your game progress is kept. Erase all my data erases them too. Without access to the game (lost phone, game uninstalled), write to us with your nickname.
Settings
How do I change the language?
The game starts in your phone’s language (French or English). To change it, open the Settings. In this version, the words used in word puzzles (word search, crosswords, hangman…) and riddles are in French, even when the menus are in English.
Which accessibility options are available?
In Settings → Accessibility: text size, a high-contrast theme, color-blind modes and reduced motion. And no puzzle is timed.
Having trouble?
I found a bug, what should I do?
Write to us with the Report a bug button at the top of this page, or from the game: Settings → About → Send feedback. Add the information from the list above: it helps us reproduce the problem.
The online demo won’t start
The demo needs a recent, up-to-date browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge). The first load can take a few seconds. If the screen stays black, reload the page or try another browser.
The game closes on its own
Check that the game and your system are up to date, then restart your phone. If the problem continues, write to us with your device model and when it happens.
